SOMETHING TO DO TOGETHER
Date night in Kitchener that isn't dinner and a movie
A movie means two hours of not talking. Dinner means two hours of nothing but. There's a middle option where you both have something to look at.
Finding a date night in Kitchener that isn't dinner and a movie gets harder once you've done both a hundred times. It's harder again if you're dating after a long gap and a candlelit table makes you want to go home.
The easiest dates have a third thing in the room. Something to look at, hold, or argue about. It takes the pressure off the two of you. Silence stops being awkward when you're both looking at a very large rock.
We're a crystal shop on Victoria Street. Neither of you has to believe in anything. Here's what you can actually do here.
Pick your date in two questions
Walk in for tarot
Tarot with J'aime takes walk-ins, in 20, 30 or 45 minute sessions. Readings are private, so one of you can wander the shop while the other sits. Then you trade stories.
Book the Crystal Lab for two
It's $60 each, about 30 to 45 minutes. You each answer a short questionnaire, get a tray picked for you, and take a guided walk of the shop. Book it here.
Go to an event
Sound baths, tarot and oracle nights, workshops and talks all land on our events page. Some are free and some are paid, so check the listing before you go.
The date night that isn't dinner and a movie: three real options
Tarot with J'aime
This is the low-effort one. You don't need to know a single card. Skeptics are welcome. You might walk out saying "that was weirdly accurate" or "that was nonsense." Both start a good conversation.
Book ahead if you'd rather have a set time. The booking page has what's open.
The Crystal Lab for two
This is the one to pick if you want a host. Someone walks you through it, so neither of you has to run the date. You also get 30% off the crystals you choose, and picking one for each other is a nice touch.
An event
A sound bath is an odd and lovely second or third date. You lie near each other in a dim room while someone plays bowls. There's no small talk, then you have a whole strange experience to discuss after. A tarot deck exchange night or a talk puts other people in the room. That helps if a full evening of eye contact sounds like too much.
If it's been a while
Maybe you've got a sitter for three hours and you're out of practice. That's a good reason to come here. You can keep it short, and "want to go look at some rocks?" is a very easy ask.
Nobody needs to be impressive. You can both be bad at this. Pick up something odd, ask the staff what it is, and let the rock do some of the work. Grab food after if it's going well.
Something to ask between shelves
- Which rock here looks most like someone you know?
- If you could only keep one thing on this shelf, which one?
- What did you collect as a kid?
- Which one would you pick for me, and why?
- What's the weirdest thing you've ever believed for a while?
- Would you actually want to know your future?
- What's your birthstone? Do you like it?
What about making bracelets?
Bracelet making is a booked option for group parties. If you've got friends to bring, the group night page has how that works.
For just the two of you, our bracelet builder is online. Tap in 20 real stones and design one for each other at the kitchen table. We'll string them by hand in Kitchener.
Questions people ask
What's a fun date night in Kitchener that isn't dinner and a movie?
Try something with an activity built in. At The Rock Space you can get a tarot reading, book a Crystal Lab for two, or go to a sound bath. All of it gives you something to talk about afterward.
Is this okay for a first date?
Yes, and the shop is probably the easiest version. It's casual, you can leave whenever you like, and there's always something to point at. Save the booked session for when you know you want the whole half hour.
Can we make bracelets together, just the two of us?
Not in the shop. Bracelet making is a booked option for private group parties. For two people, try our online bracelet builder. We string each one by hand in Kitchener.
What if one of us thinks tarot is nonsense?
That's fine, and it often makes it more fun. Skeptics are welcome, and no one expects you to believe a word. Readings are private and one-on-one, so take turns, then compare notes.
Do we need to book?
Tarot takes walk-ins, though you can also book ahead. The Crystal Lab needs a booking. Events vary, so check the listing on our events page.
