The basics
Jasper is an opaque, fine-grained quartz in the chalcedony family. Iron and other minerals tint it rusty red, mustard yellow or mossy green.
Bits of mud or ash get trapped as it forms, which makes the patterns. Red, ocean, picture and bumble bee jasper all look completely different.

Most jasper is natural, but some is dyed to look like turquoise. Anything we know is dyed says (Enhanced) in the title. Some names are trade names: dalmatian jasper is really a different speckled rock. Still natural, still lovely, just not jasper.
