The basics

So what is this golden quartz, really?

It's quartz, through and through. The gold colour comes from iron oxides, mostly limonite and hematite, that coat the crystal or got trapped inside as it grew.

The name was made up by crystal sellers, so you won't find it in a mineral guide. Geologists would simply call it iron-stained quartz.

Rituals, not rules

How people use it

  • A lot of folks keep a carving on a shelf where the light catches the gold.
  • Heart charms are a favourite for bags, keys and small gifts.
  • It's traditionally linked with warmth and fresh energy, so people set a piece out during a morning routine.

These are traditions people enjoy, not promises. Pick the one you keep coming back to.

Care

Looking after your Golden Healer

  • Water: quick rinse only
  • Sun: fine
  • A quick rinse is fine. Don't scrub, since surface iron can rub off.
  • Dry it with a soft cloth right away.
  • Store it apart from softer stones so it doesn't scratch them.

Straight talk

Real, treated or lab-made?

The quartz and the iron are both natural. What isn't official is the name: it's a shop name for golden, iron-stained quartz. Some sellers dye clear quartz yellow to copy the look. If a piece we sell were ever dyed or treated, the title would say so.

Good questions

Golden Healer questions people ask us

Is it a real crystal?

Yes. It's natural quartz with natural iron oxide. The name is a trade nickname, though, not an official mineral name.

What's the difference from citrine?

Citrine's colour sits inside the crystal itself. This quartz gets its gold from an iron oxide coating or inclusions you can often see up close.

What does it mean in crystal tradition?

It's traditionally linked with warmth, optimism and intention-setting. Many people just love the gold colour, and that's a fine reason to pick it.

How do you cleanse it?

A quick rinse and a gentle dry works. For a traditional cleanse, people also use smoke, sound or a night on selenite.
