WHERE DO I EVEN START

Chart, human design or numerology: which one first

Three systems, all free to try, all about you. Pick the one that matches what you have on hand and what you want from it.

Stuck on birth chart vs human design vs numerology for a beginner? You can't pick wrong. All three are free to try on our site, and each takes minutes. The bad news is they each come with enough vocabulary to swallow a weekend.

So pick one and give it a week. This quiz will choose for you.

Which one first?

Start with your birth chart

It's the easiest of the three to find plain-language help for. Get your free birth chart, then read your sun, moon and rising only. Leave everything else for next week.

Start with human design

It's built around how you work and decide, which suits you if that's your question. Try the free human design chart with your exact birth time if you can get it. Keep the lines that ring true and drop the rest.

Start with numerology

It's the lightest start: a few numbers worked out from your details. Try the free numerology calculator, read your result, and see if anything lands. If you enjoy it, the other two will still be here.

Birth chart vs human design vs numerology for a beginner

Here's what each one is, in about the words we'd use at the counter.

The three, side by side

Birth chart

A map of where the sun, moon and planets were when you were born, as seen from your birthplace. You need your date, time and place. The rising sign shifts about every two hours, so the time matters. The chart itself is real astronomy. What it says about you is the belief part.

Human design

The newest of the three, put together in 1987 by Ra Uru Hu. It blends astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah and the chakras into one chart. You need the same details as a birth chart, and the exact time matters a lot here. People mostly use it to think about how they work and decide.

Numerology

The idea that numbers carry meaning, applied to your birth date and name. There's no chart and no birth time. You add up digits and get a few short results. It's the fastest of the three and the easiest to share with a friend over a drink.

Which is worth your time right now?

  • You want a long hobby. Go with the birth chart. There's enough there for years.
  • You're working out what to do with your life. Try human design as a prompt, then talk it over with someone who knows you. It can't choose a career for you.
  • You just want to play. Numerology. Do it for yourself, then for your whole family.
  • You're in a hard stretch. Keep it light. Any of these can make a good conversation, and none of them can tell you what happens next.

None of it is proven, and that's fine

We'd rather say this plainly. Nobody has shown that any of these three predicts anything. Astrology has been put to the test and hasn't held up. Human design and numerology haven't had much serious testing at all.

People use them anyway, and we get why. A good description makes you stop and ask, "Is that me?" The answer is often more useful than the chart. If you've got a skeptic's streak, you'll be at home in our skeptic's guide.

Take the bits that help you think, and leave the bits that box you in. A chart can't decide who you are. If you hit a line that makes you feel small, skip it.

After you've picked

All three tools are free. The chart tools show your chart at no cost, and a fuller reading asks for your email. Give your one pick a week. Write down one line that felt true and one that felt wrong.

Want a stone to go with your chart? Have a look at our zodiac collection. There's no need to, though. If your late 20s are the reason you're here, try Saturn return, explained like a friend would.

Questions people ask

Birth chart vs human design vs numerology: which is actually useful for a beginner?

The birth chart, for most people, because it has the most plain-language writing around it. Numerology is the quickest if you just want a taste. Human design suits people who like a system with a strong point of view.

How do I read my own birth chart for free, explained simply?

Get your chart from our free tool, then read only three things: your sun, moon and rising. Sun is the core of you, moon is your private side and rising is how you come across. Stop there for a week.

What is human design?

A system put together in 1987 by a man known as Ra Uru Hu. It blends astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah and the chakras. The chart comes from your birth date, time and place.

Is human design worth looking into when you're trying to figure out what to do with your life?

It can be a useful prompt, as long as it stays a prompt. It won't tell you your career. Read it, keep the sentences that ring true, and test them against your real life.

Is any of this real?

Nobody has shown that it predicts anything. Astrology has been tested and hasn't held up, and the other two haven't had much serious testing. Plenty of people still find them a good way to think about themselves. Both things can be true.

I don't know my birth time. Can I still do this?

Yes. The chart tool and the human design tool both let you say you don't know it. You'll just see less. Numerology doesn't use it at all. A parent or your birth records may have it if you want to look.
