The basics

So what is prehnite, really?

Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate that often grows in rounded, bubbly crusts inside cracks and pockets in volcanic rock.

Those dark needles you see in many beads are often epidote, another mineral that forms alongside it. Some folks hunt for the pieces with the most needles.

Rituals, not rules

How people use it

  • It's a lovely bracelet stone, soft green and easy to match with almost anything.
  • Collectors like the bubbly natural specimens on a shelf where the light shines through.
  • It's traditionally linked with calm and inner knowing, so some people keep it nearby while meditating.

These are traditions people enjoy, not promises. Pick the one you keep coming back to.

Care

Looking after your Prehnite

  • Water: quick rinse only
  • A quick rinse is fine for polished pieces. Dry it right away and skip long soaks.
  • Raw specimens are delicate, so dust them with a soft brush instead of washing.
  • Store it apart from harder stones so it doesn't scratch.

Straight talk

Real, treated or lab-made?

Natural prehnite has a soft, cloudy glow and uneven colour, often with dark epidote needles. Very bright, even green beads could be dyed stone or glass. If a piece of ours were ever dyed or man-made, the title would say so.

Good questions

Prehnite questions people ask us

What does prehnite mean?

It's traditionally linked with calm, patience and trusting your gut. Most people pick it for that soft green glow, and that's a great reason.

What is prehnite with epidote?

It's prehnite with dark green to black epidote needles grown inside it. Both minerals form together, and many people love the contrast.

Is prehnite real?

Natural prehnite has a cloudy glow, uneven colour and often dark needles. Glassy, perfectly even green beads are worth a second look.

How do I cleanse prehnite?

A quick rinse is fine for polished pieces, then dry it right away. For raw specimens and a traditional cleanse, try smoke, sound or a night on selenite.
