This beautiful gemstone has been used for more than 5,000 years. It has been used historically for manufacturing weapons because of the stone’s unmatched durability. It’s been linked historically to healing, good fortune, protection, and blessing.
The name jade was derived from French word l’ejade which refers to the kidneys or loins, as jade was thought to heal these areas of the body with high efficiency.

Physical Properties
Jade comes in many colours and is not always green as is commonly thought. There are two different categories of Jade geologically speaking. These are nephrite and jadeite.
While the two stones are similar, they vary in appearance and composition. Both variations are more often translucent or opaque. Jade is a sturdy stone; on the Mohs scale, it ranks 6.5 to 7. Jadeit is rated 6.5 - 7 while nephrite is 6 - 6.5.
Jadeite may be found in many colours, mainly ranging from white to dark green. On occasion, this stone may be found in other colours such as gray, pink, lilac, red, blue, yellow, orange, black or others caused by impurities considered to be pyroxene which is rich in sodium and aluminum.
Nephrite is more often in tones ranging from cream-white to dark green. It is a mixture of three types of minerals which contain calcium, magnesium, and iron.
