It has been used as early as Late Archaic Period (3,000 to 5,000 years ago) for cooking slabs, smoking pipes and ornaments; soapstone has natural properties of heat conduction and retention,can resist temperatures of 1000°C,is bacteria resistant and won’t absorb odours.
