Unique Orthocera Fossil Sculpture
This is a 20 ¼” Inch tall tower coated in fossiliferous rock (the black marble-like matrix). These Orthocera sculptures are created by chiselling the stone to reveal the Orthocera fossil. The base is cut flat so that it can free-stand complementing any home or workplace display.
Orthoceras are extinct cephalopods that existed between 345 million to 395 million years ago, during the Devonian period. All Orthocera chambers are split by walls known as the siphuncle and the septa. The line that goes from the top of the head to the tail is known as the siphuncle. The septa are the short, curved lines that go across the body or side to side.
