Agate is a heavily mixed colored stone that is complexly patterned. This produces browns, blacks, greys, and golds (and occasional pinks or reds) swirled together in this stone, the range and variation in the colors of agate vary heavily and you will likely never find two exactly the same.
Legend has it that agate can protect the bearer against risk and strengthen the bravery of its owners which is why ancient sailors believed that carving agate into amulets would protect them from dying or being lost at sea.
