The majority of geodes grow in small hollow burrows within the earth, frequently developed by animals or depressions left by tree roots. The formation begins from your small little bit of limestone or anhydrite as well as over time, mineral-rich waters seep into the burrow allowing the minerals to harden across the small rock. It is the repetitious compilation of hardening deposits from mineral-rich waters that form the crystalline structure and outer crust of the geode eventually.
