Obsidian Black Tumbled Stones

Black Obsidian is a glassy lustre rock that is formed from volcanic glass. This is present where lava enters the water, as well as around the edges of a volcanic dome or lava flow. This stone colour is a completely solid black with few scratch mark dings from being mined.

Because of light-reflecting inclusions within the stone, obsidian may have a metallic sheen. Based on the colour and sheen of this stone it has variations of rainbow obsidian, golden obsidian, and silver obsidian.

An Obsidian is an igneous rock that forms above the Earth’s crust as molten rock cools. The end product is flawless, uniform volcanic glass. Ancient civilizations produce weapons for war as well as cutting tools for daily use. The precious stone was also used to make jewelry and ceremonial objects.

Obsidian is a defensive stone that shields from negative energy. Because of its sharpness, the stone is believed to pierce the shadow and expose the truth itself. Mayan prophets used obsidian as mirrors for scrying, it was their way of foretelling the future. Obsidian is a birthstone for Sagittarians.
